I grew up in Lebanon, PA
where I was always dabbling in some form of art with whatever supplies
were available and was particularly good at improvising. I also carved
some tiny horses out of discarded blocks of wood with a pen knife.
I decided to pursue Commercial Art during my first year in college, and while
trying to follow the professor's example of a technique in painting a tree, my
work was held up before the students for ridicule. The professor, laughing, told
the class to "look at this! This doesn't look like a tree. It looks like
a bowl full of donuts." To be honest, that is precisely what I thought of
her tree. And so, I changed my major to Medical Secretarial and vowed not to
take part in any more art classes, ever. I loved drawing and painting and continued
to do so for my own pleasure. During this time I also got into cartooning which
was found to be a great way to have fun, relax and express myself.
Many years later a friend enrolled me in an oil painting class, giving me six
pre-paid lessons after which I continued with group lessons for several years
until the instructor, at age 85 yrs. could no longer hold classes.
I then called accomplished Bucks County artist Robert J. Seufert, who's award
winning and other paintings I greatly admire, for lessons and my name was put
on his waiting list. He called about five years later with an opening and I have
been enjoying painting under his instruction and encouragement ever since.
I am particularly fond of dogs, horses, other animals, wild and endangered, lighthouses
and old buildings. Some of my paintings are under my former name of Di Rosa as
I was widowed and have remarried.
